How to get there

Public transport is the way to go, for more details read below

Transport options

With road closures and limited parking, the best way to get there is by public transport.

Transport options

Trains:

Please note that trackwork is scheduled across Sydney’s train network on race weekend, which may affect your journey. To help ensure a smooth race day experience, we strongly recommend planning your trip in advance and allowing extra travel time.

Here’s what you need to know:

City Circle Trackwork: no trains will stop at Museum, St James, or Circular Quay stations. We recommend using Light Rail or local buses as alternatives.

You can also travel to:

  • Martin Place Station (Heavy Rail / Sydney Metro) – approx. 10–15 min walk to the start line.
  • Wynyard Station – approx. 10 min walk to the start line.
  • Circular Quay via Light Rail – approx. 5 min walk to the start line.

Additional Line Disruptions:

  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: Buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Buses replace trains between Glenfield, Sydenham and Central via the Airport.
Metro:

The closest metro stations to the start line are Martin Place and Barangaroo. Both stations are approximately 12-minutes walking distance from the start line at Circular Quay. Services run every 10-minutes from early morning until late.

Buses:

Plenty of buses make stops at Circular Quay, Wynyard and Martin Place to get you within walking distance of the start line. Some buses that usually travel through The Rocks, Walsh Bay, King St Wharf and Pyrmont will be diverting from their regular routes and terminating early while roads are closed for the event.

Ferry:

Ferries don’t operate early on Sunday mornings to get you to the start line on time, but you can catch the ferry home after the event from nearby Circular Quay wharf.

Light rail:

Catch the light rail to Circular Quay to get within walking distance of the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

You’ll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

Driving & Parking

We fully appreciate that the public transport options aren’t for everyone, and some participants will prefer to drive to the event. Key roads will close for the events and existing restrictions in the city mean parking is limited so plan to arrive early and carpool where possible.

Road closures will be in place between 4am and 1pm on roads in the Sydney CBD, Dawes Point, Millers Point, The Rocks, Barangaroo and Pyrmont to safely facilitate the event. Roads will start to progressively reopen from 10am and all roads will be reopened by 1pm.

Key closures:

  • Circular Quay West – 4am to 1pm: Overseas Passenger Terminal car park.
  • Sydney CBD & The Rocks – 4.30am to 11am: George Street from Alfred Street to Hickson Road; Hickson Road from George Street to the Park Hyatt; and the OPT Upper Roadway.
  • The Rocks – 6am to 11am: Hickson Road from Barton Street to the Park Hyatt; Napoleon Street from Kent Street to Sussex Street; and sections of Dalgety Road and Towns Place.
  • Dawes Point, Millers Point & Barangaroo – 6am to 10am: Sections of Hickson Road, Barton Street, Slip Street and Sussex Street.
  • Pyrmont – 7.30am to 10am: Sections of Murray Street, Pirrama Road and the Wharf 7 & 10 access road.

For full road closure details, visit Live Traffic NSW.

If you plan to drive and park, remember to allow extra time walking from your parking space to arrive at the race start approx. 45mins before the event. Street parking is limited and remember to check the parking meters carefully for permitted parking times.

If you are getting dropped off at the event, the closest and most easily accessible streets to the start line are Argyle St or Harrington St. From there the start area at the Overseas Passenger Terminal is a short walk through Jack Mundey Place.

There are a limited number of car parks within walking distance of the start line that operate early on Sunday mornings. All available car park options can be found at the Wilson Parking or Secure Parking  websites.

We encourage you to book in advance.
